ATLAS Programme
For School Leavers with Disabilities
The ATLAS programme provides training and practical support for approved participants to enable them to make the transition from school to work.
Employment preparation includes:
1. A focus on outcomes in the areas of independence, self esteem, skills development and employment.
2. Training in:
punctuality, dress, hygiene, reaction to supervision, ability to carry out instructions, working in a team, concentration, retaining information and productivity, OH and S issues, interpersonal skills.
Disability Standards and workers' rights and responsibilities.
Job Readiness (Certificate 1): a nationally accredited pre-employment training course comprising eight modules: communication, working with others, planning and preparation, memory, independent travel, personal presentation, choice making, introduction to work.
3. Individual Career Plan: Individual needs are assessed during the Career Plan process and an action plan is implemented to assist the participants to reach their goals. This may include:
- Preparation for open employment - accredited courses at TAFE or courses at other adult education centres.
- Work experience in the local business community. eg: food outlets, local sporting and community clubs, nurseries and supermarkets.
- Centre based training in office skills, use of forklifts, pallet jacks, shrink wrap machines and other packaging and assembly related machines, sewing and electrical assembly.
4. Job Search/Placement: Referrals are made to specialist disability employment agencies who provide support in open employment.
5. Certificate 1 in Community Living Skills: On completion of the Job Readiness Certificate participants also have the option to undertake a Certificate in Community Living Skills comprising 11 modules including:
- Personal presentation, home duties, social skills, food presentation, rights and responsibilities in the community, maintaining personal network, community access, personal safety.
Participants who complete the Job Readiness Certificate will receive recognition of prior learning for modules that are common to both courses. The Certificate in Community Living Skills will complement the skills that participants acquire in the Job Readiness Certificate.
